Details

Hey Folks - we have a brand new member Fay Ann Lee - who has just finished an over ten year journey in getting her feature film "Falling For Grace" completed - and now has it showing at the Camelview. As she's willing to give us an all inclusive Q&A on how she got this completed and what she went thru, I think this would be a great meeting for us this April. She'd like us to be there on opening night. I really think it's important that we support our fellow indie film makers and in turn they help us by giving us the benefit of their knowledge and experience.

I hope to see you all there - see below for the details. Also - all you wonderful folks who also have mailing lists and groups - please repost this - I'd so love to help Fay have huge audiences for her film.

See you all at:

Details on Film Maker and Film

I'm an indie filmmaker. I live in New York City but have very strong family ties in Phoenix, so I spend quite a bit of time in the valley.

My film, Falling For Grace, was at the Phoenix Film Festival just last weekend and is opening at Harkins' Camelview 5 (at Fashion Square in Scottsdale) on Friday, April 18th. This is quite a moment for me as it's taken me a decade to get from script to screen. I've opened in other parts of the country, but coming to Camelview is especially thrilling because of its reputation for showing quality independents.

Most films that open at Camelview have studio backing and sizable marketing budgets. Falling For Grace, on the other hand, does not and with practically no money for P&A. So, word of mouth is the only form of advertising we have. Thus, I am trying to get the word out, especially to indie lovers, to come on opening weekend to support a truly independent effort.

I'll be at Camelview all weekend long to do Q&As - yes staying for every screening (and we screen 5 times a day). I've gone through so much with this movie that I could probably answer any practical questions about writing, directing, producing, acting and yes, now, even distributing and marketing a movie. So, come pick my very fried brain for all its worth.

I thought what might be fun is to get different groups to come to different screenings. In fact, what I've also done in the past is have the head of the particular group moderate the Q&A, so that discussions can be tailored to the interest of the members. This also benefits the organization as audience members that are not part of the group may actually learn about it and become members. Cross-promotion is a wonderful thing! Anyone interested in moderating a Q&A should get in touch with me.

Here are the screening times for opening weekend:

FALLING FOR GRACE
CAMELVIEW 5
STARTS FRIDAY, APRIL 18TH

Showtimes: 11:40, 2:15, 4:50, 7:30 & 10:00

Q&As after every screening friday, saturday & sunday!

Synopsis

A cross between Mike Nichols' Working Girl and Ang Lee's The Wedding Banquet, Falling For Grace is the story of Grace Tang, an ambitious Wall Street banker determined to work her way up the ladder of life and out of working-class Chinatown. When a case of mistaken identity brings Grace together with New York's most eligible bachelor, she is unwittingly swept up in a whirlwind of romance and white lies. Now, to untangle herself, she'll have to carefully negotiate her personal ties to Chinatown and the politics of Wall Street and high society. It's rated PG 13.

Cast include: Gale Harold (Queer As Folk), Fay Ann Lee (Miss Saigon), Christine Baranski (Cybill), Ken Leung (Lost), Roger Rees (Frieda) and comedians Margaret Cho and Lewis Black.

I want to thank all who came to "Falling For Grace". We opened as the No. 1 film at Camelview last weekend. We are now in Week 2, and need to do just as well. Word of mouth is very good but still need a lot of support. We are the only movie at Camelview without a distributor. Hence, if you go today (sunday), u are directly helping FFG potentially get distribution as studios are now tracking our film! If you do go, e-mail me so I can properly thank you! Movie is fun, right, Tammmy?

Hi Everyone, I feel a little silly RSVP'ing to my own movie but the meeetup reminder asked that I check an answer, so I did. I hope you can come that evening, if not, I'm around the theater all weekend long, so hope to see you at any point during opening weekend (beginning 4/18). Tamara, thanks for putting this together! fay
