We worked hard last weekend making a movie in only 48 hours, and now we'd like to invite everyone to come out to the screening. Our short film "Stolen Love" will be screening along with several other 48 hour films this weekend:

Saturday, June 6, at 6:15 p.m.
NYU's Cantor Film Center
36 East 8 Street
NYC 10003
(212) 998-4100

Tickets may be purchased online at
http://www.brownpapertickets.com
(credit card required).

AND/OR can be bought at the door of the Cantor Film Center the night of the
screening. Although screenings could get sold out, so get there early!

There is an audience award, so please bring your friends and family and get them to vote for our film! I think we easily have the biggest crew, so we have a good chance of winning the audience award by sheer numbers alone!

WRAP PARTY!!!

Village Pourhouse - East Village
64 Third Avenue at 11th Street
NYC 10003

Just five blocks from the screening venue. 48 Hours will have an after party after the screenings. Your ticket stub is good for a free Bud Light draft or free Absolut cocktail, courtesy of the Village Pourhouse. Audience Award winners will be announced each night at the Pourhouse 11:30p.m. Free to all 48 hour attendees and ticket stub holders.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Alright Crew! It's time once again for the 48 hour film competition. We did a couple of these last year, and it was a real blast! It's a lot of work, but it can be so gratifying to have a completed project at the end of a weekend. This year's competition begins Friday May 29th and ends Sunday May 31st.

If you don't know, the idea of the competition is that at the beginning of the weekend you draw at random:
A genre
A character
and a line of dialog

You then have 48 hours to write, shoot and edit a short film based on those prompts. To find out more about this competition, visit: http://www.48hourfilm.com/newyork/

We are going to need actors, crew, writers, directors, sound technicians, grips, equipment, locations, and PASSION! Have a look at some of the previous winners, and you'll see that we are up against some fierce competition. Let's bring our A Game!!

Our team will assemble at the Whole Foods on Houston and 2nd ave. A runner will come from the 48 Hour kickoff to tell us the specifics for our project. This brainstorming session is very important, and if you want to be involved in the project, I highly recommend that you come to this event.

Looking forward to working with you all!

This will be a pre-production meeting for the 48 Hour Film Competition that happens the weekend of May 29th.

At this meeting, we will work on assigning crew positions, collecting a pool of actors to work with, figuring out equipment and locations, and discussing aesthetics/techniques for the film. Anyone interested in being a part of the competition should attend. In particular we will need:

Actors

Assistant Producers
Writers
Directors
Composers
Animators

We welcome everyone - if you've never been part of a shoot before, this is a great chance for you to jump in and get your feet wet. If you cannot attend this meeting, but are able/want to be a part of the 48 Hour competition, send me an email at amber.yoder@nycfilmcollective.com

Looking forward to working with you!

This workshop will cover the basics of screenwriting. Anyone is welcome to attend, whether you've been writing for years and just want to brush up on the basics, or if you've never written before and want to learn what it's all about.

Here's some of the stuff we will cover in the workshop:
-Proper screenplay formatting
-Structure and narrative
-Character development
-Writing prompts and exercises

We'll provide you with a lot of examples and ideas for how to turn your great idea into a great screenplay!

We will have another script table reading in April, so this workshop will be a great place for you to learn new writing techniques and put them into use.

Seating is limited, so please only RSVP "Yes" if you really intend to come. Admission for the workshop is $10 - which can be paid in cash the day of the workshop.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Monthly Meeting
Date: Thursday, March 5th.
Place: Whole Foods on Houston (in the upstairs/restaurant area)
Time: 7:30 p.m.
So the month of February is closing fast, and you may be wondering "Where was our monthly meeting?" Well, March will simply be double the fun! If you've been following our Twitter account (www.twitter.com/nycfc), you'd see we've been working hard to get some of our past films wrapped up before starting our new projects. Coordination is still underway to make the shooting schedules of "Cooking with Spirit" and "Last Ride of John Doe" and we'll try to finalize those arrangements at our meeting. At our first meeting of March, it'll be a bit more low key - we're actually gonna have a book club of sorts. I'd like everyone to answer the attached question on their favorite books/DVDs about filmmaking - whether the media is about writing, acting, directing, shooting, editing, makeup... basically anything short of cooking (that is, of course, unless you're volunteering for our perpetually-unfilled "craft services" position) and bring the books/DVDs to the meeting if they have them. Maybe we could even have members do loans/trades for other members books.
Now for a couple side issues. We would love to have more classes like the "Basics of Production Class" Chao and I held back in January. If you feel like you got the know-how, let us know and we'll help you make a class. Also, if you have a script that you want critiqued, you don't have to wait until a "Script Reading" month - just post it on our website (www.nycfilmcollective.com) in the Scripts section - don't worry, it's in the "Members Only" area so no random website visitor will be ripping off your script. Let one of the organizers know you posted it, we'll let the members know, they can read it and then give you feedback in the forums.
Look forward too seeing many of you Thursday the 5th,
Mark

We will be having a table reading for short (15 pages or less) scripts on Wednesday January 14th at the Player's Theater from 7:30pm - 9:30pm. We will read from 4 scripts at the reading, and select one project to shoot during the month of February.

Everyone is invited to submit their scripts for consideration at the table reading. To have your script considered, please upload it to the Files section for this meetup group:
http://indiefilm.meetup.com/196/files/

The deadline to upload your script is 11:30pm Friday January 9th. If we receive more than 4 script submissions, we will have a poll to vote and select which scripts will be read at the table reading.

Actors, writers, directors, producers and anyone interested in getting involved in the pre-production of our February project should attend this table reading. Even if your script is not selected as the February project, this is a great opportunity to get some creative feedback on your work-in-progress. So upload your script, RSVP!

If you have any questions, please email Amber or Anthony.
Hope to see you there!

Alright group! Now that most of our projects are in post-production, it's about time to get back on the set. So join us for a fun full day of shooting on Saturday November 22nd. We'll begin at 10am and plan to go until about 8pm. We'll spend the day at Anthony's house shooting 1, maybe 2 shorts. At the recent table reading, we chose two scripts - "Tantric Sex" and "Cooking with Spirit". The current scripts are uploaded in our files area. Please note that script revisions will be made, so new roles will be created and old ones possibly cut.

We're going to need actors, directors and crew. All members with any, all or no experience are welcome to join us. So come one and all for a low key and fun day of filming. Please let us know if you have any equipment (cameras, lights, mics) that you can bring for us to use.

Since this shoot is at Anthony's home, we're only going to send the address out to those who RSVP yes. We plan to coordinate train travel from the city, so don't be shy about coming out to New Jersey!

We ask a suggested donation of $5 to cover costs of food for the cast and crew and any props needed. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Anthony or myself. My email is amber.yoder@nycfilmcollective.com

Hope to see you on the set!

Hi Gang!
We're looking for short scripts to film on our November 22nd shoot day (see the meetup calendar for more info on the shoot). The scripts should be short - no more than 3 minutes each. Our location is a domestic home, so any scripts that include a living room, bedroom, kitchen, dining room are welcome. We also have access to a back yard, so there's some potential for outdoor scenes. Please keep your scripts within these constraints of time and location.

I'd like to meet up this Friday November 14th at the Whole Foods on Houston St. at 7pm to read scripts and discuss shooting. I know it's short notice, but if anyone is able to come it would be valuable prep time for our shoot. If you can come and have a script you'd like to submit for the shoot, please email it to me as a .pdf or .doc attachment. Be sure to bring enough copies of your script for everyone to read (at least as many copies as you have characters).

If you are unable to make this meeting, but have a script that you think would be a good match for the shoot, feel free to send it along. We'll consider everything that is sent, but please keep in mind that we won't be able to shoot everything that is submitted.

Let me know if you have any questions. My email is amber.yoder@nycfilmcollective.com
See you Friday!

Hello Meetup Members,
For our October meeting, we have something special in store. We will be doing a table reading of 5 different scripts/script exerts. This table reading is an opportunity for writers to have others read their works-in-progress, to hear their scenes read aloud by actors, and to receive constructive notes and feedback on their scripts.

The first 5 writers to respond to me with a 5 page script or exert will have their works read at the meeting. Please only submit 5 pages from your script. You must be able to attend the meeting if you want to have your script read. Reply ASAP to amber.yoder@nycfilmcollective.com if you want to submit your script for the table reading.

Everyone is encouraged to attend, from actors and writers to producers and first-timers. However, due to limited space, the meeting attendance is capped at 20. Please only RSVP yes if you truly intend to come.

After the table reading we will have a general meeting. During this meeting we will discuss current and past projects, potential future projects, activities and group structure.

We have a suggested donation of $5 to cover the cost of the meeting location. Any money left will go towards the group's general fund which supports our projects budgets, props, makeup, location fees and food for shoots.
